"Catering" to its ego <3

I was just about to enter my house after a long and tiring day,

When I saw a blur of fur that made me do a double take.

I blinked and blinked as I stared,

Did I think it was true? I didn’t dare.

I reached out a hand, my heart in my throat,

But he ducked my touch in his dusty coat.

It’s April, I know, the month for a joke

But this was no prank, though my heart nearly broke.

He didn’t look up with a soul-searching stare.

Or act like he’d missed me or even been anywhere.

He looked past my should, right through the gate,

To spot here his kibble bag lays and waits.

I sighed at the sass, at the sheer feline greed

As I went for the bag to do perform a good deed.

I filled up the bowl and he dove for the prize.

I guess home is where the best catering lies.
