A Year and a Little More Since My Book Came Out

It has been more than a year since Fleeting Feelings was published, and I still get a small jolt of surprise when I see it on a shelf. Holding my first book in my hands felt unreal. For so long, my poems lived in notebooks, on loose pages, and on my blog. Suddenly they had a cover, a page count, and an ISBN.

Writing the book taught me to slow down. Some poems came in a rush, while others took many drafts before they sounded like me. I learned that I didn't have to write about big, dramatic things to make a poem matter. Often the most honest moments were small ones: a quiet afternoon, a memory that came back unexpectedly, or a feeling I didn't have a name for until I wrote it down.

Looking back now, I see that the book is less about having everything figured out and more about being willing to notice what I feel. I'm still growing, and I expect my writing to change too. But I'm glad these poems exist as a record of where I was when I wrote them.

If you've read the book, thank you. If you're thinking about reading it, I hope you find a poem that feels like it was written for a moment in your own life.
