Lub Dub! Lub Dub!

Lub Dub! Lub Dub! Lub Dub! Isn’t that the sound of our heartbeat? Last month I was interested in knowing more about the heart and I found some interesting facts about our heart.

Well, before you begin to read some of the facts that I have listed below, I invite you to hear this exciting, informative and melodious human heart song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-K6LK4DrihY&list=RD-K6LK4DrihY&start_radio=1.

Some of the little-known facts about the human heart are:

A) Difference due to age – An infant’s heart rate is around 70 to 190 beats per minute, while the adult’s average resting heart rate is around 60 and 100 beats per minute.

B) Difference in weight - A man’s heart weighs, on average, around 10 ounces and a woman’s heart weighs, on average, around 8 ounces.

C) Difference in heartbeats - Women also have faster heart rates, on average, than men as their hearts are smaller in size but they need to almost pump the same amount of blood.

D) Difference due to emotions – The blood vessels are supposed to relax when you’re laughing and thus it sends 20% more blood through your body due to which your heart doesn’t have to work as hard.

E) Difference in symptoms - The symptoms of a woman having a heart attack are much less prominent than a man. For women, heart attacks can feel like uncomfortable squeezing, pressure, fullness or pain in the center of the chest. It can also produce pain in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach, shortness of breath, nausea and other symptoms. Men experience the typical heart attack symptoms of chest pain, discomfort and pressure. They, too, can experience pain in other areas, such as the arms, neck, back and jaw, as well as shortness of breath, sweating and discomfort that mimics heartburn.

The most interesting fact that I studied was that a horse, just like dogs and cats, can mimic the heart rate of the person touching them. Horses, therefore have been added to the list of animals that are emotionally responsive to humans.

If you have other interesting facts about the human heart then please share the same with me.
