Haven’t our Principal Shyalaja Ma’am, English Teacher Sunita Ma’am, and Bind & Unwind Ma’am asked us to write interesting blogs? Obeying them, last week, when I was in Chennai, I was looking for some interesting thing to write. While going to my aunt’s place, suddenly I saw a fishery (a place where fishes are reared) and I wanted to visit the same.
My aunt got the permission and I walked in with a note and a pen. Upon seeing me with a book and pen, the owner Mr. Kumar of GRK Aquarium was pretty impressed and shared with me some details about rearing fishes, especially aquarium fishes.
Firstly, I got to know that in Chennai fishes are reared in bore-well / groundwater that is somewhat salty. In Bengaluru, I know, fishes are reared in freshwater.
Secondly, the most preferred fishes are Angel Fish, Barb Fish, Cat Fish, Flowerhorn Fish, Gold Fish, Guppy Fish, Koi Fish, Ornamental Fish, Oscar Fish, Shark Fish etc.,
Thirdly, these fishes when well-reared lay between 50 – 100 eggs every time.
Fourthly, medicines like agriflowin are used to prevent fungus poisoning the fishes and the water.
Fifthly, fishes don’t need to be fed 3 times-a-day. Healthy fishes can even live up to a week without eating!
Lastly and most surprisingly, I learnt that fishes live longer in an Aquarium than in the wild because there are no predators in there!
I walked out of the fishery armed with new knowledge and lots of gratitude to my school for helping me realize how blog writing helps in being more knowledgeable and informed.
