Almost all us now wear a mask in this corona, but I am afraid we even have to wear a mask even after the corona pandemic. I will tell you the reason why. On October 22nd, while I was reading the newspaper article, “Air pollution killed 1.6m in India” caught my attention. I was so shocked could not even believe it. Trust me I had tears in my eyes. Some background about air pollution:
Air pollution is the introduction of a poisonous substance or other harmful gases (oxides like carbon, sulphur and nitrogen) into the air.
It's mostly caused by fire from burning of natural waste (forest fires and stubble burning) and man-made waste (packing materials, tyres, electronic goods, hospital waste, polythene materials, etc.,)
Biggest polluters are industries, especially leather and diary.
Bikes, autos, cars, lorries and even aeroplanes through the smoke they let out add to the pollution of air.
Air conditioners and Refrigerators also cause air pollution.
The article said that in Delhi alone, almost 6.7 million+ people have died due to lung cancer, chronic lung diseases and related complications. I felt sad when I read that in 2019 around 1.8 million babies in China and around 1.6 million babies in India had some health problems because of air pollution.
The report also said that breathing polluted air puts kids and elderly at a higher risk for asthma and other respiratory diseases. It recommends that we cover our nose while walking / travelling and thus protect ourselves from air pollution.
Corona or NO Corona, I think masks will soon be an important part of our daily wear! Agree or disagree, please let me know!
