My Story Behind The Constellation - Pegasus.

Circa: 95 AD

Location: Golija Mountains in present-day Serbia

After camping a whole morning on a hilltop in the western ghats, in the summer holidays, the three girls were eager to cross one of the thickest and most dense jungles on their path. Walking along the stream, they find a neat and clean place to have their evening snacks.

They remove their shoes & socks and dip their legs in the chill water. The girls open the basket containing highly nutritious fruits and nuts. As they are sipping water from the bouget, they enjoy the evening mist, scattered rays of the setting sun flashing on their faces from the tree gaps and stunning views of the mountains from the bottom of the valleys making them feel peaceful.

However, the sudden ruffling of the shrubs almost simultaneously shook them. From the depth of the valley, as they look up, they see a pack of werewolves stealthily moving toward them. They realize that they were surrounded. The loud grunting sounds and their evil laughs tell them the feast they want to make out of them.

The girls smartly use sign language and quickly draw an escape plan. They decide to remain calm and pray to Dazdbog – the Slovakian god of fortune - to help them out of this mess. They meditate intensely and just as the werewolves spot them and try to attack them; their prayers are answered.

At that very moment, a flying horse appeared from above and a heavy fight ensued. The flying horse killed all the werewolves. Through the moonlight, the girls could see blood splattered everywhere. Seeing the girls still shocked, the flying horse flies them all to their village. The villagers realized that it was their God Dazdbog who had sent the flying horse to save these young girls.

The village headman profusely thanked the flying horse and their God Dazdbog for saving the girls from the werewolves and pleaded that the flying horse should protect all the girls across the world while they travel at night. Pleased with the villagers’ devotion and gladdened by the flying horse, God Dazdbog smiled and vanished into the sky. After a few seconds, they saw a bright ball of fire, followed by 23 bright stars.

Over the years, this set of 23 bright stars came to be known as the constellation Pegasus.
