Hello friends, The video, “Meeting my teacher, Molly Abraham”, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8uPvNQJfl0 - must watch video about a student travelling thousands of miles to meet his teacher after 23 years) left me thinking, “how blessed the teachers are!”
Also this week at Orchids International School we are celebrating Teachers Day. In India, every year on September 5th, we celebrate Teachers Day in honor of Dr. S Radhakrishnan – the 1st vice-president of India and a well-known scholar. It was his strong belief that "teachers should be the best minds in the country" made him recommend his birthday to be celebrated as Teachers Day.
After wishing our teachers (yeah, Im blessed to be part of Orchids International School where our classes are being conducted online despite the pandemic) as I was retiring to my couch, I thought about my teachers, some names clearly stood ahead of the others. These teachers who remained in my memory were not only just affectionate and loving but also had their own and unique approach towards teaching young and curious kids like us.
Here are few of my teachers who I would like to thank:
Raji ma’am -This is my UKG teacher. She taught me how to write, how to behave, and how to act and greet in front of people. I will never forget her because she always taught me with examples for us to understand.
Indu ma’am- My first-grade teacher insisted on learn by doing and made us memorize tables 1 to 11. And if I am in love with English, it’s because of the videos she showed in the class. She spotted my inhibition to lead and socialize – made me participate in many events and eventually confidently communicate. Beyond being a good teacher, she was a wonderful human-being first. We kids were her priority and she never hesitated to walk that extra mile for our sake.
Padmavathi ma’am – As my second-grade teacher she ensured that my liking for English and Maths was well channeled and used to excel in subject like science also. Almost during the mid of the school year, I lost appetite and tried to avoid eating lunch. Every afternoon for almost a fortnight she shared her extra lunch box and then spoke to my parents about what changes could be made so that I get back to eating normally.
The above teachers are from my previous school – Ravindra Bharathi Global School at HSR Layout. Currently, at Orchids International School, I am yet to meet my teachers in person as the COVID pandemic has kept us away from the campus thus far. However, at Orchids International School, through online the teachers make me eagerly look forward to being on campus and learning more. The following teachers have furthered my interest in learning:
Neetu Ma’am (who helps us understand science better with activity-based learning [cold cooking classes] and through experiments [solubles]),
Hrishitha Ma’am (who makes numbers interesting and keeps expanding our knowledge of numbers [including reading/expressing them in Romans, Arabic and International systems]),
Suma Ma’am (who ensures that we burn our share of calories staying at home and adds to our general knowledge through interesting facts), Vinutha Ma'am (who ensures that I learn and spell Kannada sweetly and rightly)
Haripriya Ma’am and Rajeswari Ma’am (who teaches us online about arts, dances and theatre)
Thinking about making video about, “Meeting ….. teacher” 20 years from now, I wonder how many videos I would have to make as I feel blessed to have come across so many teachers who have impressed me and motivate me.
