Shining on my own terms

This is the sixth poem from my book - Fleeting Feelings. Sometimes, it's better to walk alone than with a crowd going in the wrong direction. I hope you enjoy it!
They say to fit, you must be cool,
To chase the trends and play along.
But every time I play that role,
It feels like everything is wrong.
I wear the mask, I fake the grin,
But something deep inside feels lost.
I hide my truth to try to win,
But wonder if it's worth the cost.
The mirror shows a face I doubt,
A stranger staring back at me.
I try to fit, to not stand out,
But lose the chance to just be free.
So now I speak in my own tone,
And wear the colors that I choose.
I'd rather stond with self alone
Than blend and be the one to lose.
It's brave to be the one you are,
to shine despite what others say.
You are your own and brightest star,
So let that light go lead the way.
I won't pretend to fit their mold.
This story's mine, and it'll be bold.
