Sources of light

“Oh! I hurt my toe”

“What was that I banged into?”

“Bang! Clang!! Screech!!! Thud”

Well, these would have been the voices we would have heard when people moved in darkness! Thankfully, light removes the darkness and helps us to see stuff around us. Light’s importance is best told through the idiom, “light at the end of the tunnel,” meaning how eager we are to get rid of our troubles.

But what are the sources of light? There are three sources of light - Natural, Bio- luminous and Artificial lights based on the source from how they are emitted.

Natural light - The light that are emitted by stars is the best example of natural light. Are you thinking why I haven’t mentioned the sun yet? Well, remember, the sun is also a star - the nearest and brightest star!

Bio-luminous - Animals like jellyfish and fireflies emit natural light from their bodies! These special creatures made by god made emit light without heat!

Artificial light – The light that is emitted from light bulb, candle flame, bon-fire, etc are not natural sources as they are man-made. The LED bulbs that are in use today emit far more light and very less heat when compared to the bulbs of olden days. Did you know:

A) The light emitted by the moon (being reflected from the sun) is considered to be a secondary source of light.

B) Of all the natural lights, its fascinating to see Northern Lights in Norway and quite scary to see the lightning crack the sky when accompanied with thunders.

C) The Centennial Light, located at 4550 East Avenue, Livermore, California, and maintained by the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department, is supposed to be the world's longest-lasting light bulb. It’s been burning since 1901 (almost never switched off for around 120+ years)

Well, I got to go, cause my dad and me are going to the terrace to watch the full moon!
