Most of our summer vacation has started and it is going to be full of fun, I bet.
But then, why are schools giving summer vacations? Or what can or should we do? Oh, do the vacation come on the same months as India?
Well, children are given holidays because the summer’s hot weather is very harsh on young children like us. It can lead to sickness due to dehydration because few children don’t like to drink water. Some children also faint and few may have bleeding noses when they are exposed to summer’s hot sun.
Summer is one good time to pick up non-curricular skills and talents in areas such as sci-fi, fine arts, adventure sports, cultural practices and other activities. Most of these activities help us develop important life skills as well as our confidence.
Do we all have summer holidays at the same time? All school children in South Asia have their summer vacation from March end to May end. And children living in the Middle East, Europe and America they have summer vacation during July and August. But friends guess what, when the northern hemisphere has snow during December and January, the school children in Australia and New Zealand have their summer holidays!
Do I enjoy summer vacations, well Yes and No! Yes, because I get to take cold water showers and apply mint based talcum powder all over my body as well as visit my cousins/nephews. No, because I can’t meet my school mates and my teachers!
