Superheroes - upon hearing this word, most of us naturally start talking about Batman, Thor, Wonder Woman, etc. I agree with you, but I would talk about the ones that don’t wear a cape. I am not even talking about the doctors or firefighters who we meet quite rarely. I will talk about my family members who I believe are the true SUPERHEROES because we our life and successful existence with them.
1) Dad - Power of managing everything: However busy my dad gets, he will still always have time for me. He always has time to clear my doubts / to tell stories and take me on trips. His never-ending “Dad Jokes, provide the daily dopamine that my mind and body require. His hugs and care make me feel secure. He treats me like a princess and I love him for all these things.
2) Mom - Power of multi-tasking: I often wonder whether moms like all Hindu goddesses have more than a pair of invisible hands. Early in the morning, I find her in the kitchen cooking unique dishes, in the room helping me dress up and look good; in the living room verifying whether I am carrying the right items in my bag.
3) Grandfather – Power of staying young: At 77 he ran 2kms carrying me in his arms, to ensure we don’t miss a river cruise! His agility surprises me - he can run, play, jump, etc.; while playing hide and seek with me - he can bend down and check if I am under the bed too. And while playing chess, he teaches how patiently one must think about an opponent’s possible moves.
4) Grandmother – Power to listen and do yoga: My grandmother always has time to listen to me. I have spoken to her while she was cooking, cleaning, etc. I tell my grandmother everything that happens at school and at home. She somehow always listens to me. With great effort, I learn yoga and demonstrate it to my grandmother. But she in jiffy does all those asanas and keeps me amazed.
They can go beyond who and what they are and live for me, making them my superheroes.
