Hello, everybody, I am back with an enjoyable blog about flowers. Hope you enjoy it.
On Sunday, Oct 18th my dad woke us up and stated: “let’s get ready”. I rubbed my eyes and saw the clock – it was just 3:15 am. Closing my eyes tightly, I asked, “are you serious? Why so early?” He told us that we had to travel to Chennai. I got up, brushed my teeth, took a warm water bath and wore a comfy dress. By 4.30 am we were on the way to Chennai.
Like a typical October morning, the climate was cool and there was fog along the way. I sat in my favourite seat - the copilot’s seat! We started with some music – with devotional songs as always and then my most favourite motivational songs like A Million Dreams, The Fight Song, Roar, Fireworks, etc.
After we crossed Hosur, I suddenly noticed on my right there was green medians. In the start I first saw very small plants then I started noticed they started growing in height. I saw yellow, pink, white, red and orange flowers belonging to one plant variety – Bougainvillea. It was the same plant until Vellore and the same intrigued me. Curiously, I asked my dad, why was it the same plant all along?
He explained to me about the various reasons as to why the Bougainvillea was the most preferred plant for growing in the medians across almost all highways for the following reasons:
a) the Bougainvillea plant requires less water to grow as compared to other plant types
b) the thorns in the plant protect it from stray animals eating it
c) the bushy plants stop light from opposite vehicles in the night and
d) the colourful flowers make driving a pleasure
Wow, by remaining awake and observing nature, today I learnt quite a few things about the Bougainvillea plant and some of its benefits. If you have something similar to share, please let me know in the comments below.
