Friends, isn’t attitude all about what me make of challenges? Well, today I am going to write about yet another Indian Sportswoman whose attitude inspires me.
Have we even thought about climbing some of the tallest peaks in our state or country? And here is Arunima Sinha who has climbed all the tallest mountains in each of the 7 continents! Before you can say wow – let me inform you that she is an amputee (one whose leg was surgically removed)!
Arunima Sinha was a national level player in volleyball and had represented India in various competitions. She was doing well in sports and her career. But in 2011 while she was travelling by a train, few thieves entered the train and began to snatch the jewellery from the passengers. When Arunima refused and fought, the thieves opened the door of the running train and threw her out. Sadly, on the other track, a train running on the opposite side ran over leg. In the hospital the doctors had to remove a major part of her leg.
For any ordinary soul, that would have been the end of everything. But the brave soul and the fighting spirit in Arunima made her resolve that she would not accept the handicap. Taking inspiration from cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who is a cancer survivor, she decided to do something different - climb all the tallest peaks in each of the continents, including Mount Everest.
The International Women’s Day is fast approaching and I resolve to not only keep my fighting spirits up at all times but also to spread the good word about Indian Sportswomen like Arunima Sinha who are the best examples of Naari-Shakthi!
PS: Earlier I had written about Karnam Malleswari whose first Olympic medal inspired so many Indian girls/women to seriously take sports as a career.
