Magic! Who doesn’t get mesmerized by it? Add some 1st class animation, adventure, fantasy and family sentiment!! Who wouldn’t love it?
On one side there are 2 teenage elf brothers (Barley [elder] and Ian[younger]) who go on an adventure to bring back their dead father using magic. And on the other side is the legendary manticore (Tavern) who the mother teams-up to bring her beloved boys back home. The movie gets interesting and engrossing as the journey is filled with dreadful difficulties, mystifying maps, and surprising sightings.
The movie starts on Ian’s 18th birthday. His mom gave him something his dad wanted to give Ian on his 18th birthday. When he opened it, he found a staff and a riddle. As he was reading the riddle, he did whatever the riddle said. But half way through he dropped the stick so only half of his dad’s body came.
In the meantime, Barley’s game comes into picture and it turns out that the game is real as they needed a map from Tavern which was a difficult task by itself. On the way back, they come across many obstacles and Barley helps Ian learn magic. The movie is gripping because whenever the father appears, an obstacle also appears.
Towards the end a dragon appears and is determined to stop them. So, one had to fight while one had to meet. Ian says, “Barley! You go and meet dad.” And then Barley was like “What? No way. You should go meet him.” Ian then says, “I grew up without a dad, but for some time you had a dad. You go and say hi.” Emotions and tears overwhelm me.
Summary: A neat, clean and enjoyable movie for the whole family.
My score: 9.5/10
