The below is my “Patriotic Poem” which is presented as part of intra-school poetry competition. As the dates of the competition was coinciding with our nation’s 72nd Republic Day celebrations I took this opportunity to combine both.
As I was comparing the then struggle and the present-day situation, I saw that during the freedom struggle leaders from all community worked together and were united. However today the same spirit is lacking. The news on TV and newspapers almost every day talk of communal differences and riots making younger generation like us quite scared.
I decided to use one of the literary tools called “rhymes” and prompted me to write this poem:
With a smile that is a mile wide
Now we all say India is our pride!
But who can forget the Britishers tide?
That made poor Indian women hide
While the fighters by the thousands died
But arose the freedom fighters nation-wide
Their “non-violent” movement caught attention world-wide
Winning hearts and blessings from every side!
Today, let’s all say from our heart inside
We shall all secularlly and peacefully abide
So that India shall remain our pride!
Jai Hind!
