My favorite sportsperson is Karnam Malleswari - the first Indian woman to win an Olympics medal.
Malleswari was born in a small village Andhra Pradesh and all her four sisters were well trained in weightlifting. She started her career when she was 12. She moved to Delhi with her sister to train better and win better and in the year 1990, she joined the national camp.
In 1994, she was a world championship winner in the 54-kg class. Karnam Malleswari, during the 2000 Sydney Olympics, won the bronze medal and became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal. Before that, she had won a silver medal at the World Championships in Istanbul. Malleswari was a two-time weightlifting world champion with 29 international medals, which includes 11 gold medals.
I like her the most because she has inspired a million Indian women to participate actively in sports and a greater number of women in India have been winning medals after her.
