Who do you think the remover of darkness could be? Yes, of course a guru. Guru means remover of darkness. On the auspicious occasion of Guru Poornima, students do various activities to show their gratitude for everything their Guru has done for them. And the following are the non-academic gurus that I would like to sincerely thank.
We all have heard about, “Matha, Pitha, Guru, Deivam” as the order in which anyone can rightfully thank and respect. And my order is no different.
Matha - My mother, Devi Suresh is indeed my first guru. Like a true mother she inculcates in me the importance of time, discipline and neatness. Her lessons are continuous and so are her expectations. She is my also my first critic and her non-stop feedbacks helps me be better.
Pitha – My father, Suresh Panchanathan, is my favorite guru and an all-time friend. We both love to play knowledge building games such as PlusMaths, WordsAkashari, Prohibited, Jumbled Words, Reverse Spelling, etc. As my biggest ‘partner-in-crime’, we both enjoy sneaking out of my mom’s eyes and playing in the rains.
Neeta Shenoy Didi – Didi as a sevika of Bala Vihar at HSR Layout, helped me understand the richness of our culture. I got to learn more about Krishna and Hanuman, and also got to recite shlokas, bhajans, and various devotional songs. The art and drawing activities are something that I enjoyed thoroughly.
Ambika Aunty – Our neighbour at HSR Layout helped me with multiplication tables and preparing for Olympiads. More importantly she made me understand the importance of brisk walking. She taught me many shlokas and the importance of spirituality. Her house remains my favorite “have fun here” place.
On this Guru Purnima day, please accept my sincere pranams.
Friends, please feel free to share with me about your gurus that you admire the most.
